Christmas Travel Advice

16th December 2020

To keep everyone safe and stop the spread of Covid-19 during the festive period the Government announced some changes surrounding Christmas travel and Christmas bubbles.

You can create a Christmas bubble on Christmas Day (25th December) if you live in Tier 1, 2 or 3. If you live in one of these Tiers you can see a maximum of two other households but you cannot see anyone from a Tier 4 area. If you booked your ticket on or after 24th November, to travel between 23-27 December, using an Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak, Anytime or Advance ticket you can apply for a refund on an unused ticket free of charge. For more information about refunds click here

Local restrictions are in place across Britain so check the latest Government advice before you travel. If you are travelling by train we want you to travel with confidence which is why the rail industry is:

  • maximising space by running more and longer services where possible

  • carrying out more frequent and thorough cleaning than normal on trains and at stations

  • providing improved travel information and personalised travel alerts

  • ensuring there are people on hand at busy locations to help you with your journey
