Where can I buy one?

Buy online - it's easy!
Your Railcard will be dispatched within one working day, and will be sent by First Class post (free of charge).

Your online Railcard will be produced as a durable plastic card, and will incorporate your photo (no need to carry a separate 16-25 Photocard).

And, when you buy online, you'll also be eligible for a FREE YHA membership worth £9.95.

The first time you buy online you will need:

  • a valid passport number or UK driving licence to prove that you're eligible
  • a digital passport style photo saved to your computer

Please ensure that you allow enough time before your journey for your Railcard to reach you.

Please note, 3-year Railcards are available to buy online only.

Or buy at a staffed station ticket office*, or National Rail licensed Travel Agent
To save time print off the application form and complete it before you get to the station.

If you're applying for the first time you'll need one of the following to prove your age:

  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • ISIC card

NUS cards are not accepted as proof of age.

You'll also need a passport size photograph and £26. Stations and agents accept cash, cheques, debit, credit and charge cards or postal orders.

If you're renewing your Railcard then you'll need to complete the application form, and take your Exisiting Railcard and Photocard, which will be automatically accepted as proof of age.

*Please note that Railcards can not usually be purchased at stations operated by London Underground but which also service some National Rail routes. The exceptions are: Harrow & Wealdstone, Kenton, South Kenton, North Wembley, Wembley Central, Stonebridge Park, Harlesden, Kensal Green Queens Park, Gunnersbury and Kew Gardens.

Or even buy over the phone
Call your nearest Train Company telesales number.  For Train Company telesales numbers contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 (calls charged at local rate and may be recorded) or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk.

You'll need proof of age/identity to hand.  You'll be sent a 'Permit to Travel without Photocard' - and will have one month to take a suitable photo and some identification to exchange your permit for a 'Photocard' at a staffed station ticket office.

If you're renewing your Railcard then quote your existing Photocard number, Railcard number and expiry date.

Payment can be made by credit or debit card. If you purchase your Railcard from a Train Company Telesales Centre then you must allow at least 14 days for delivery.

Mature Students

If you are applying as a mature student, you must apply at a staffed station ticket office, or rail appointed Travel Agent, because we need to see proof that you are a full-time student at a recognised eduational establishment.  You can either show an ISIC card or have the 'Mature Students Only' section of the application form completed and certified.
